On September 5, 2022, NIO released NIO Air AR Glasses, the industry's first native car AR glasses. The glasses were jointly developed by NIO and AR equipment company Nreal, and the pre-sale price is about $300.
In 2017, NIO proposed the second living room concept, which aims to turn the car cabin into a mobile living space. As the concept of the Metaverse continues to improve, the concept has also developed into the PanoCinema concept for the digital panoramic cockpit of NIO electric vehicles. AR technology is an important element to realize the panoramic digital cockpit PanoCinema.
In addition to redefining the cockpit, eliminating the large screen in the car has always been one of Weilai's goals. At the moment when the screens in the car are becoming more and more complicated, the use of AR glasses to replace the large screen has become a focus of NIO's differentiation strategy.
Judging from the functions of NIO Air AR Glasses, it is indeed in line with the development strategy of NIO's intelligent cockpit.
According to reports, the NIO Air AR Glasses can achieve a 3D viewing effect equivalent to 4 meters and 130 inches. Supporting binocular 1080P3D display and 108% sRGB color gamut coverage, with 7.1.4 immersive sound system and Dolby Atmos technology, the vehicle will be built into a comfortable mobile theater.
In general, based on the strong market potential of AR itself and the positioning and pursuit of products, it is a foregone conclusion that NIO enters the vehicle AR glasses. However, whether it can be finally recognized by the market still needs to be determined from the applicability of the product and the acceptance of customers.
